You can't barelly tell if it's night or day in X/Y, the 3rd generation game had no visual effects for night or day too, just the internal clock.
I wouldn't be surprised if they removed this effect (not the day and night cycle mechanics), considering that the 3DS is a fucking piece of shit and the game does run like shit.
I did know that moon was set at night from months ago.
