She's from Alola originally (Seafolk Village) and was all set to take on the island challenge when she turned 11, but then her dad got sick and her family had to move to Kalos for his medical care. Her dad's stable now but they decided to just stay in Kalos, and despite some uncertainty at first (and postponing her adventure for a year to be with her family) she ended up changing her goal and is now taking on the gym challenge in Kalos instead.

She's competent, I guess? She's a decent trainer and she's not stupid, but she's also twelve so make of that what you will. She's definitely hyperactive; think a combination of Iris and OS!Ash but not nearly as much of a jerk.
