So if I get an elekid from gen 2 and it turns into electabuzz, I see it being from gen 1 anyway. But I think a pokemon family belonging to a specific gen as a whole depends on which one is the most iconic and/or popular member. I feel like the Roserade family belongs to gen 4 even though Roselia was in gen 3, but I still see the Honchkrow and Togekiss family as belonging to gen 2
