Even putting aside how bad it looks, graphically.
I like -some- of what they did here.
An open area with Pokemon to actually track down is a great idea.
Making it so segregated from the actual game world is not, plus it's a bit small.
Imagine if you had to find the Pokemon, like some of the puzzles in Pokemon Snap. That would be better than just having them randomly spawn in the middle of an empty field.
