Joe Merrick met with Masuda in secret. According to the prosecutor, Masuda had promised that he would have a new car and was willing to pay for the car and repairs. The deal with Merrick was that Masuda would give the vehicle to Merrick and Masuda would pay Merrick for the repairs.
