You can cover all 18 pokemon types with your megas - using only 8 pokemon.
Start with the three best:
Rayquaza - Flying, Dragon, Psychic
Groudon - Ground, Fire, Grass
Kyogre - Water, Electric, Bug
Then for the rest you can mix and match but here is what I am using...
Tyranitar - Rock, Dark
Gengar - Ghost, Poison
Abomasnow - Grass, Ice (You could use Glalie here since it is mono Ice type)
Lopunny - Normal, Fighting
Mawile - Fairy, Steel
You could change some out if you want, just depends what you have that's good, or shiny, or what you like, etc....
LIke I could change out Mawile and Lopunny and replace them with Audino and Lucario and still have the type coverage..
To me the important thing is having all 18 types covered with max level mega Pokemon for GO Fest, CD, etc.
