I'm actually really exited about a new type for a number of reasons:
1) mixing up the metagame. I'm tired of poison type being a joke and dragon pokemon having free reign with choice banded outrages and draco meteors.
2) Fairy type is very cool if you think about it. Fairies aren't just the disney-esque pixies you immediately think of. That's the 20th century bastardization of ancient lore. Fairies aren't good-hearted goody two-shoes either. They're usually malicious spirits and mischievous pranksters. Trolls, goblins, leprechauns, nymphs, imps, sprites. I'm pretty sure even stuff like genies and mermaids would count. Basically anything in a fairy tale works.
This is, of course, assuming GF doesn't fuck it up and just make every fairy pokemon a sickeningly-cute pink thing like blissey or clefairy. But chances are good they're using the old school interpretation, judging from the dragon immunity and weakness to steel.
Personally I'm hoping for a Gargoyle pokemon with Rock/Fairy typing and Storm Drain ability.
