If you want to play the game that badly well then purchase it. I decided to not purchase swsh, not because of some jackasses on the internet told me I'm not allowed to buy it because it will kill the franchise or that if I do I will be labelled a shill or whatever. I didn't want to purchase it because the game didn't interest me. The same thing happened for me for LGPE, USUM, SM or XY. Even if the games were good I didn't buy them because I just stopped caring about the franchise. The only one that a purchased in the 3DS generation was Omega ruby but that's because I was interested to see how they remade gen 3. You don't want to support GF's laziness then pirate the game or purchase Ni No Kuni, Digimon: Cybersleuth or if you still have your 3DS, get Shin Megami Tensei 4. Because, in my opinion, these 3 games have been so much better monster capture games than what GF has been making for several years. So if you want to play swsh, buy it. Even if the game is flawed and lazy, I still believe it'll satisfy your pokemon craving and it will be decent to a good game at it's best and inoffensive at worst. If you don't want to support GF, don't buy it. Pirate it or buy the other games I've mentioned. Anyways, I hope the decision you make the right decision for you and good luck on your surgery
