Although at first they said they did to attract a female audience. That didn't quite work out, so they tried again with Dawn. Same effect, guys liked them more, while young girls didn't seem to like pokemon at all (at least during my youth).
Oh and anon, as a fellow creative that can lose himself in fictional worlds and writing, I feel like I gotta say this. I don't know your situation, but just make sure to take good care of yourself, and spend some time with good friends. I spent my teenage and early twenties a little sheltered, enjoying myself with all kinds of fantasies, writing and anime, and I'm still dealing with the aftermath in adulthood. I know I might be an idiot for saying it on 4chan's pokemon forum, but be sure to go out and chill with others every once in a while! This will also help your writing! Nemona isn't going anywhere, she'll always be there on occasional lonely nights :)
