I didn't grind, I only battled the trainers in the game once each. I had Garchomp by the time I battled Cyrus in Celestic Town. It's not very hard.

I've played through gen 1-4 and I ended up overleveled in every single one of them. It's extremely easy to do. This is my team right after going to Route 218 and I could have broken the game even harder if I didn't bother using Gabite.
