Region based on US as a whole and not just New York City. I think a good Lumiose/Castelia of the region would be St Louis, it being the gateway to the west.
It'd be pretty diverse too, it'd have a desert in the southwest, forests in the pacific NW, and it would get more industrialized as you make your way east. Mountians and rural-type cities in midwest as well, and maybe make Hawaii the location of a Battle Resort or something. Alaska post-game quest where you find a legendary based off of Bigfoot.
