Remember how cool it was to talk about Mew and how everyone try to spread rumors about it? What happen? Nowadays, nobody care and worse of all, it seem like Gamefreak had taken a lazy route about using Mythical pokemon. They just give it to you now. In all the previous gen, they had events and something even catching them.
They started to give them away in Gen 5, starting with Keldeo, Meoletta and Genesect, but they still had events just for them. Keldeo learn a new powerful move and gain a new form, Meoletta remember it's old song and can transform now, and Genesect was to have a pokemon battle with the creator and win it's Disc. These event may not involve catching, but it still had something to do with the pokemon and it's lore. Now look at the event today. Gen 6 and 7 are the worse.
In Gen 6, they started giving you the pokemon and just tell you about the same information about the pokemon that you can find in the pokedex. In Gen 7, it was only Magearna, which was only, "That's a rare pokemon" and that's it. They don't even have anything for Marshadow or Zeraora. They don't even have an event, not just for learning about the pokemon or getting a new move, there is nothing for them.
It just make some of them feel out of place. Hoopa feel like it belong in Gen 4(space and time theme) and Magearna feel like it belong in Gen 6(life theme). There's no lore for these pokemon, especially when they are shoehorn into a movie with another legendary just to try to make them popular but failed horribly. We have two new Mythical pokemon coming in Sword and Shield and right from what we have seen so far, it look like Gamefreak is going to do the same thing they are doing since Gen 6 started, just give out new pokemon and make them forgettable.
