I sometimes think of dark types as something like schizophrenic. They have this dark aura around them, that most people wouldn't notice directly. The person just seems mysteriously or creepily "off" or "disturbed" somehow. Psychic and ghost types interact with the aura directly, and it's like poison to them. But if you are just a fighting type you either dont notice aura at all or dont care
