>>23558036To be honest I like them. Getting past obstacles is part of the game challenge. Having to go to Move Deleter to get rid of them is annoying but I like their effects outside of battles.
Posting my ideas I came up with earlier:
>Make HMs better movesCut is weak but it can be justified by its usually early obtainment. Giving it high crit ratio wouldn't be bad.
Fly should be completely reworked (make it physical Aeroblast for example).
Strength could be Fighting type move with maybe slight increase in power (85/90 BP).
Whirlpool could be useful if it had more power and accuracy.
Rock Climb could be changed to rock type move.
Surf and Waterfall are fine.
>Reduce number of HMsStrength could destroy rocks instead of Rock Smash. It's logical.
Dive is unnecessary. Surf could be used for diving (makes less sense but it's more convenient in the end).
>Change some HMs into TMsHMs which are used to remove obstacles could be changed to TMs (just like Defog). These HMs are: Cut, Whirlpool and Strength.
>Make some of HMs moves that are used to access bonus areas instead of required onesSelf-explanatory. IIRC Black/White did that.
If you combine all these ideas you end up with:
>HMs (including the ones changed to TMs) being more useful attacks in battles>HMs being moves responsible for transport outside of battles>Old HMs being moves responsible for removing obstacles for bonus areas>4 HMs (Fly, Surf, Waterfall, Rock Climb) and 3 TMs (Cut, Whirlpool, Strength). Way easier to manage>Dive and Rock Smash removed
