Some time ago I bought a used 3DS and hacked it Recently I began playing Pokemon White on it. I played these games rather religiously back in the day, the last one being Diamond in 2007. In White, I got up to the town that comes after the big city and ragequite because I lost two hours or so of progress, I either forgot to save or the file was corrupted.
Anyway, it has been a while since I quit, and now I wonder whether there would be any point to picking it up again. I appreciate that they went with new monsters this time around (even if I dont care much for their designs), since I remember most of my time with Diamond being pointlessly spent on importing Pokemon from the previous gens. But at the end of the day, this game is just same old, same old. Same battle system, same progression. I can already see that the rest of the game will be simply traversing routes battling weak trainers and escaping random encounters, dealing with the boring Team X crap until youre finally permitted to beat the towns gym leader, traversing caves while depending on HM slaves, fighting the Pokemon on the box art and in the end battling the Elite Four plus Champion. I guess they added a bit more text via cliched anime stock characters this time around (that bit with the female rival, her father and the resident gym leader in the last town I saw was groan-inducing).
