I got to the end of the first volume now. The book ended with another Delia scene, with her remarking that she just wanted her husband or father to contact her once they left on their journeys. It makes for a good bookend, but I'm guessing Shudo had plans he wanted to foreshadow with Ash's father at the ending of Pokemon that he had planned. I think the leading theory was that Ash's father was Giovanni?
Anyway, a bit of amusing description for Misty:
