While I will concede that both BW are transitional anime that put testing the waters above quality and that both series share many of the same flaws such as one note characters with shticks that die fast. What puts SM above BW is that SM has SOME redeeming qualities. Mainly it's large cast, better budget allowing for more visual comedy and the direction is still better despite being a step back from XY.
BW has nothing going for it. it tries to recapture the OS while being rigid and tame, it tries recapture DP with action but has no fight choreography or direction. SM is a low but BW was the all time low, where the anime was nothing but boring episode after boring episode with anything remotely interesting being wasted and destroyed. No series will ever be as bad as BW.
