The rumors I remember most are from the period of speculation before Diamond and Pearl came out. One that really let me down was from some FAQ/walkthrough website that said when you beat the game and went through a gym again, you could become a trainer in that gym and even work your way up to being the leader and have trainers challenge you. Another was from my friend who mixed up Pokemon Diamond and Jade (a bootleg ROM hack based on a cellphone-themed RPG) with Diamond and Pearl, which made me think the new games would be some fever dream with talking pokemon on cellphones.
