Nintendo console and handheld 3D already looks several generations out of date by default, and compound that with gamefreak's laziness and all 3D in Pokemon games has been ugly low poly trash. The last fully 2D games were the last games that looked good, without chunky, low quality 3D eyesores either popping up here and there or making up the whole damn game. GF are unable or unwilling to do 3D graphics right on an already hobbled hardware system, so just return to what works.
