They allow for "new" pokemon without adding another number to the inevitable 1000 total they are so desperate to not reach, allow older pokemon to not only be relevant but a chance to be actually viable through new typings, movesets, abilities, evolutions, and slight stat changes, and I prefer most of the updated designs, though that last part is subjective. I hope they never stop doing them
