Lillie's character was just fine in SM but they had to go ruin it in USUM by stripping her of everything memorable she went through in the previous games. This outright insulting retcon of her character development (and in turn who she is and what she stands for by the end of the games) is the main reason why I hold anime Lillie to a higher regard. I think they handled her quite well considering all else, though I would still rate SM Lillie as the best overall. It's just that there can only be one version of Lillie that people will think about when mentioning the games, and I really hope she isn't cemented in the canon universe as she is of USUM.
