It seems they purposefully designed Delphox so that it could be perceived as a witch or a wizard depending on gender, as it's stature and long robe like fur could be associated with either gender.
That can be noted in fan art, which can slightly alter it's facial features to appear more masculine or feminine. Take pic related for example, there's a Delphox that leans far towards masculinity.
Handsome, elegant male Delphox will always be superior.
