Any will work ranging from the original DSphat to the current 3DS model. One system with the proper game cartridge, and one with the distro cart. You need to check online for the original dates the distro was live, because the cart is programmed to only work with those dates, but all you have to do is set the date back on the DS that has the distro cart.
