the bonuses are +1, +2, +3 for bronze, silver, gold respectively
The corresponding medals show up when you're catching a pokemon, so if you're catching a bulbasaur, at the top of the screen it will show your current grass medal and poison medal so you know how much bonus you get for that
I think I read that it averages your bonus if they have multiple types
