>>51613179>>51612498>Pokemon gens are like soft reboots, but there's a lot of lore and understanding you miss out on if you just play the newest games. You can definitely see this happening with all of them, their knowledge is spotty in a way a Pokemania kid or a kid from like gen 3-4 wouldn't be because they have such a backlog of information to deal with. It's VERY hard for their developing brains to parse through the sheer magnitude of information they have to deal with.
They don't understand that Lets GO is a remake, and I've tried to explain it to them but it's not quite connecting in their brains, so the oldest is super confused on how I can know Kanto in extensive detail, and yet not know a bunch of Lets GO specific information that changed relative to FRLG and RBY.
They watch any and all of the Pokemon programming on Netflix and despite the fact that we think that Indigo "looks old" and the latest series "look new" they have no fucking clue which one is which and get tripped up by Ash not having certain things in Indigo, or things that are no longer present by the current series. When I tried to explain to them which Pokemon cartoon I had seen I said "You know, the older one you guys watch on Netflix?" and he thought I meant the 3D Mewtwo movie. They also really struggle to understand that the anime plays by it's own rules and not EVERYTHING they show is in their game file somewhere.
When I show them Pokemon GO on my phone I almost always introduce them to a new Pokemon on accident, however because of the cards and the show it's not like there are entire generations that are just unknown to them, but similarly they don't know a single gen inside and out either, so I have zero way to communicate to them exactly which Pokemon are in their Lets GO Pikachu game, "the original 150/151" as a phrase means nothing to them and they just think it's dumb they can't get a Steelix (fair).
