When you don't provide people with content - which you can't because you're rushing development - you force their hand into wanting more ASAP.
You never really heard this during Gen 1 - 4 because they actually had enough content compared to money spent to hold people off for a while. It's only once they started dumbing down and removing content in Gen 5 that this ever larger outcry for more content via a new game occurred.
If anything, this is what you can say makes Masuda look like a genius because this yearly game shit was his idea and now people are willing to pay 60 dollars a year for garbage just to pay for more garbage next year at the same price. It's just a result of incompetence but it almost looks business savvy
by which I mean greedy as hell.
I am perfectly okay with waiting 5 - 10 years as I'm sure are most who actually love the series as long as the wait is worth it.
What they need to do is stop putting side series on mobile/making them mobile-esque trash and give themselves the time to develop the next one. If it were me and not Masuda and Ishitarda, the plan for the next while would've been something more like pic related.
The only real way to change the trajectory they're on is to have someone come in and put their foot down that the next main game will NOT release before it is feature and content complete. No more arbitrary deadlines like muh anniversary and no holding back to sell another full game for no reason. Remakes are fine, but there should NOT be more than one pair per new Gen now. All it does is split the workforce.
