After an entire generation spent resenting Trick Room because it was a 50/50 matchup against muh sand (still reached ~1850), I finally threw a TR team together. I have to say, it's tons of fun tearing up the bottom of the ladder. Dusclops and AV Moxie Scrafty make great leads to Fake Out and set up TR, and I even built in a muh sand mini-core with Hippowdon and Gigalith. Reuniclus and Mega-Mawile round it out.
I just have a few specific questions, though:
Hippowdon doesn't typically do much other than set up sand for Gigalith (sand force kicks ass). His current spread is the standard specially defensive with EQ / Rock Slide / Slack Off / Protect. Should I change him to bulky offense? Recovery moves aren't exactly the best in doubles, and while the special bulk lets him switch in and out to set up sand multiple times, he doesn't hit nearly hard enough. I've been considering changing him to an Assault Vest build and slashing Slack Off and Protect for Ice Fang, Crunch, Thunder Fang, or Fire Fang. Then I could move the special defense EVs to attack and letting loose. Losing Smooth Rock will mean shorter sandstorms, but it might not matter since Gigalith turns and runs as soon as TR is over. Or maybe I could replace him with AV Tyranitar, but that would mean three fighting weaknesses, and that makes me uncomfortable with Mach Punch running around.
Speaking of Gigalith, what's the best item for him? I've gone with Normal Gem for strong Explosions, but I've found it to be a pretty lackluster move, even with the gem boost. Right now I'm between Rock Gem and Stone Plate for stronger Rock Slides. I also rarely find myself using Protect with him. Maybe it'd be best to change it to Substitute or Heavy Slam?
Reuniclus currently runs a Sitrus Berry with Magic Guard. The extra 25% health goes a long way at times, even allowing for one final TR setup, but other times I'm wishing he dealt more damage. I guess replacing it with Life Orb is worth a try.
What do you guys think?
