Pokemania was a fad and only non-fans hype it up because it was their childhood and nothing more. These people aren't actually even fans of Gens 1 or 2, but rather fans of their childhood.
Gen 3-5 was objectively the best period to be a Pokemon fan, with the best mainline and spinoffs
We've been going through a Dark Age since Gen 7, Gen 6 at least showed some promise and had some okay spinoffs before it was cut short.
