>Gen I: In a generation where almost everything had mediocre stats and bad movepools, Gengar gets speed and special stats that are still amazing even today and a usable movepool despite being unable to use either of its STABs. Also an immunity to the most common offensive type
>Gen II: Gets a bunch of new offensive moves and other tricks in the form of elemental punches, Mean Look, Perish Song, Destiny Bond and Curse
>Gen III: Gains an immunity to its most critical weakness and a new great utility moves like Will-O-Wisp and Taunt
>Gen IV: Finally gains proper access to both of its STABs making it even more of an offensive threat than ever before, also Focus Blast for coverage and Pain Split as yet another new tool
>Gen V: Disable gets buffed and Gengar gains yet another deadly set in SubDisable
>Gen VI: Gets a ridiculously strong Mega that is sent straight to ubers. Also happens to take a shit on the newly added Fairy-type
Gengar was literally just buffed every gen for six generations straight and was the only Gen I Pokemon to remain OU the whole time. Even after its first-ever nerf in Gen VII it still remains a good and viable Pokemon in all relevant metagames and its mega is just as strong as it was last gen. Outside of in-game and competitive viability Gengar also happens to be one of the most beloved and popular Pokemon from the first generation and is loved by both normies and die-hard Pokemon fans. I fucking dare anyone to find a more blessed Pokemon than Gengar.
