Journeys has largely been it's own thing with occasional callbacks and returns, but it hasn't been about those or the past like some claim. Every time the show slaps them in the face with this fact, they get angry because they want to force their desires and perception on it but are absolutely powerless to facts that the things they want to see aren't nearly as important or relevant as they thought.

Most of the stuff outside of that is actually pretty good and there's a lot good and fun character stuff with Ash's group, Pokemon and Team Rocket as it goes on. Just watch without expectations and an open mind as something fun to pass the time.
