The Guzma VS Lana battle sucked because Lana only just recently started training her Primarina for battle and yet it survived multiple SE attacks somehow. The battle lasted way too long, the animation was horrid, and there was no meaning about it. It was just abuse for shock value, and even though Guzma’s tactics were completely legitimate, everyone in-universe got mad and shitted on him for it.
The Guzma VS Illima battle was okay, but the constant reused animation because the same moves kept being used in succession also because almost every battle lacked any actual strategy was what ruins it. Guzma’s only strat came up when Scizor attacked Kanga mommy instead of the kid and instead of the baby trying to save his mom, it just watched as she got her ass handed to her.
And the biggest offender, Ash VS Guzma. The battle that started off shit from the jump, with Scizor being immediately KO’d because Golisopod apparently took enough damage from NFE moves to activate its ability. So now the battle is instantly a 2v1, and even though Ash did not train at all to counter Golisopod, he and Pikachu were somehow able to battle it just fine, even cornering it majority of the fight. Then you have Guzma’s flashback and development being forced into the episode too, so less focus is on the battle. Battle was inconsistent, the choir music choice was retard, and Guzma and Team Skull’s story are hastily wrapped up and forgotten about afterwards.
