Way back in kindergarten some of the kids were playing a pretend game, and they pulled me into it.
They told em they were playing as pokemon, and explained like the vaguest descriptions of it. and made me a squirtle while he was an electabuzz and his friend was a pikachu

So I started to get interested after these pretend games and they told me there was a cartoon show for it. (Nobody knew the term anime back then) and I remember catching it on some really odd channel like 77 which was nothing but jap anime.
First ep I ever saw was ash vs. koga with venomoth. Then about a literal week later, Kids WB announces that it's going to start showing pokemon from the very begining.
Then from there, I wound up getting a 64 for my birthday bundled with Pokemon snap, and later hey you pikachu! And then that christmas, I got my GBC and Pokemon Red.
I also remember spending half that christmas crying because I was a fucking idiot and jammed the cartridge in backwards and thought I broke it.
Then from there it just spread. I started collecting the TCG cards, Bought every single McDonalds/Burgerjking toy for the first three movies and give aways, Ended up buying little pokemon gashapon figures at every convenience store since they were always there, etc.
