The problem with trying to rate a couple of the XY episodes is that a lot of the time they'll have one amazing scene and the rest of the episode is pretty meh. Like the scene you mentioned, blinded Pikachu battle was amazing, but the rest of that episode was pretty boring (unless Jessica making your dick hard is enough to constitute a good episode for you). Or the Froakie vs Sylveon battle + spaghetti, which is great but then the rest of the episode is boring filler.
An overall good episode would be one where it's consistently interesting the whole way through, and that doesn't mean it has to have amazing animation. Like the one where they meet Sanpei, it starts with a great battle but the rest of the episode it's just really interesting to watch how Ash and Froakie train. (Ash trying to walk on water was a pretty funny gag too)

How Ash learned to fight Grant for example, was only from a contrived situation at the very tail of the Skrelp episode. The rest of the episode wasn't about that at all. The truth is that when we originally straight jumped to the Grant episode we really didn't miss out on much.
