Ornate designs like image related have been done just fine for this series just before, so I don't understand what went wrong here. I imagine the typing and indeed wanting a random/vague wrestling basis ruined what could've been one of the best fire starters aesthetics wise.
They should've gone all in on the Chinese Ding basis, which means it could've worked as a Steel rather than Fighting type. Fire/Steel would've changed things up so it wouldn't get compared to the previous Fire/Fighters, and is a pretty nice typing by itself. It could've been as ornate looking as Serperior is, and given the Fluer De Lys & Chinese Ding both reference French/Chinese nobility it's rather fitting.
