While I think gen 3 is better, it's easy to see why many like gen 4 better, it carries over basically all of gen 3s big features and adds a lot on it's own, and sinnoh is honestly a really big region. Being the first online gen also probably made it feel muh more grand in scale since you could trade wirelessly with people world wide where only a generation earlier we were still using link cables.
