Expression is a key foundation in art it should be preserved. Its just a personal taste to be as close as possible.
Like here, there some liberties being taken with how the legs work and some of the proportions of the hips and whatnot, but it still feels like a Spinda.
The legs move in a very strange way with the actual model. Lots of stretch and almost impossible to see ankles. So it can be awkward to work with that design in many aspects, but some liberty taken that makes sense for the design while keeping the heart is always a bonus and can really show off the artist skill and the appreciation for the source material.
