The beast that devours the sun actually exists.
After making up so many different elements in its core, most stars (like our Sun) will innevitably produce Iron.
Iron is a very bad metal for stars. Iron drains energy, which is pretty much what stars are all about.
The consumption of energy makes them collapse and they are destroyed.
Iron IS the beast that eats the sun.
Literally EATS it by draining it.
Solgaleo even features a sort of supernova in his attack when he beams out the Sun.
It makes sense he's iron-type.
It'd be cool if he were Fire\Steel, yeah, but it's not inheritly bad that he's Steel\Psychic.
And it all makes sense this way.
And hey, it's a good way to teach kids how we're all going to die one day because a giant lion suddenly decides to eat the Sun :3
