Chikorita looks stupid and is possibly the worst starter in existence.
Treecko was A LOT better but wasn't as broken as Blaziken and Swampert.
Turtwig, also awesome, but, enjoy your 4x ice weakness.
Snivy a shit.
Chesnaught is probably the only one that managed to pull off being cool and useful without having a crippling weakness.
TL;DR: The typing is shit. There has never been a grass starter that was unequivocally better than the fire/water starters.
