Kanto: Legendary classic games, with many flaws and multiple hit or miss Pokemon.
Johto: A strict improvement over the original formula. Nearly every Pokemon is a hit. Baby Pokemon were a crappy introduction, but were ultimately pretty cute. Arguably the single best generation after HGSS came around.
Hoenn: Calamitous, world-ending Pokemon like Groudon and Kyogre were hit or miss with some people, but their designs made up for it. Lots of water, some annoying puzzles, but the difficulty was perfect and the replay value was extremely high. Some people revere this as best gen, and it does put up a good fight, but ORAS were awful remakes that subtracted features from Gen 6.
Sinnoh: Pretty awful storytelling. Dialga and Palkia... Space-time Pokemon? Really? But the online features were such a revolutionary breakthrough in replay value that you could put up with it. Some crappy Pokemon.
America/ Unova: Best storytelling in the entire franchise, but again with the terrible, overdesigned legendaries and almost every Pokemon is an "Amerikajin-flavored" rip of Generation I Pokemon. Slightly improved online elements.
Kalos: A true revival of the franchise. Story blows, but the postgame online elements and chara customization are best in the entire franchise. Dialed down legendaries recalled my childhood love for the franchise. Megas saved competitive battling. People hate on this gen because of certain Pokemon and the 3d elements, but it did so many things right. Kept me from killing myself.
Alola: Really, really monotonous gameplay. Unskippable cutscenes. Megas now harder to acquire and use. Some decent new forms and Pokemon, but shitloads of overdesigned "Ultra Beasts" Couldn't even finish it.
Galar: Death of a franchise.
I guess it's true that a flame burns it's brightest right before it goes out.
Sleep well, Pokemon.
