If you compare water routes in RSE to ones from ORAS then there's a huge difference. The sequels improved them. Trainers are more varied. There are hidden areas to be found. Graphical update makes exploration less tiresome. Encounter rates are actually bearable.
You would have to be a total chucklefuck who doesn't care about exploration to consider Route 130 (pic related) to be the same boring segment in all versions of Hoenn.
