Someone from downtown Unova may be shocked by Sinnoh's customs and legends. Potentially the traveling trainer would inquire how these myths shaped the culture of wherever. Or rely on a local guide.
A trainer's Pokémon might express likes and dislikes for differing locales too. Imagine a Porygon wandering around the Johto countryside, woefully unable to find a terminal or cell tower.
