Like, Cameron in BW was a fucking goofball. He probably would have been way more interesting to watch than Ash. Slap Iris onto Cameron and make him the MC and BW is improved 10000%.
And Alain? You'd have to shift the plot around since he was acting as an assistant and bodyguard for Sycamore for most of XY, but it would have been cool to watch him speedrun the league and get revenge on Flare from his perspective.
And I know I don't even need to sell anyone here on the idea of how much more interesting it would have been to watch Tobias get his team set up and curb stomp every gym.
He even seemed like a really nice guy, based off his interactions with Ash after he won. He seemed to congratulate Ash on his loss with genuine respect. Imagine how much better Tobias would have been as a "rival" for Paul. Paul would be conflicted as all hell: here's this impossibly strong trainer, and he's being NICE to people and his Pokemon. Early Paul would have had an existential crisis from that.
