It was my first favorite pokemon. I played Red first, but it was all a blur and I don't remember outright liking anything back then. For some reason, once I saw Ampharos I knew it had to be on my team, so I caught a Mareep and went through the game with it, and it came through in all the important battles, taking care of Clair's Kingdra, and landing the final hit on Red's last pokemon. It getting a mega was an amazing stroke of luck. Even if it's not the best mega, it's the only one I use. It's not my absolute favorite anymore that spot goes to Wooper but it's tied for second favorite. I make an effort to keep one on every single team I make
