Something similar happens to Cyrus. He first fights you with a Golbat. Then in the final fight, he fights you with a Crobat. This could either indicate that he actually does feel emotions through his emotionless facade or that he merely manipulated his Golbat into growing stronger

Why is it so hard for people to understand Cyrus's Crobat? The game outright tells you he's a manipulator who lies to his grunts to get them to work for him. Why wouldn't he do the same to his own pokemon and pretend that he's their friend to gain their trust?
