>>37983568Loading screens are a waste of time. The usual arguments in favor of random encounters are stupid and make no sense.
>but it adds difficulty to the game! there should be danger out in long routes and big caves! It adds fuck all in terms of difficulty. Running away from wild Pokémon that interrupt exploration is just tedious and, again, wastes your time with loading screens. Tedium is not difficulty, it's padding the game with insubstantial fluff.
>stop wanting the Pokémon you're looking for to be handed to you!Running around in circles in a patch of grass is not difficult or engaging. Standing around and looking at the various overworld Pokémon as they spawn and despawn is an improvement. A small one maybe, but an improvement nonetheless. It doesn't mean I'm expecting it to be "handed" to me.
>but I like being surprised by random encounters! There is no difference between seeing the Pokémon you want pop up in the overworld than it being shown on the battlefield after a loading transition. If you try to argue that there is then you're just an autistic nitpicker.
Overworld encounters give the player more agency, reduce tedium and make the world feel a little more alive. It's objectively a better system.
