>>37303283I would hate for this to happen, but for the sake of the thread topic, i'd say that it'd actually be relatively easy.
In terms of starters, you would literally keep the most popular of each type in order to please the largest amount of people, so Charizard is the obvious Fire rep; Greninja/Blastoise would be the Water rep, most likely Greninja because Nu-Genner appeal; Grass rep is way more complicated because they tend to be the backseat pokemon, but based on the results of those "Fave Pokemon of each Type" templates that were popular some time ago, Sceptile or Decidueye would probably be the most popular, maybe the latter if only for the inmense popularity of Rowlet.
Make Legendaries Legendary Again: There's too many now, so i'd keep only the most canonically powerful and important, but make them extremely hard to catch so their Legendary status makes sense. Dialga, Palkia and Arceus as Time, Space and God itself, maybe Yveltal and Xerneas as Life and Death, along with Mew and Mewtwo because it'd be stupid not to.
Then i'd look for the more popular exponent of the consistently repped archetypes: Pikaclone, Rockmon, Regional Rodent, Waifumon, Bulkymon, Amphibian, Oceanicmon, Bugmon, Cave Fodder, Flying Mon, Fossil, etc. while taking their marketability into account.
Pseudo would most likely be the Garchomp line, but Tyrantrum could contest that, really. Riolu line too. Obviously the Pikachu line too, maybe add an oddball here or there like Sigiliph or Stunfisk bacause otherwise Gen V would get shafted. Eevee would probably be cut down to only the 3 most popular eeveelutions otherwise it'd bloat the dex and some forms aren't particularly popular. Umbreon and Espeon are the most popular, right? Then i'd guess the remaining would be Vaporeon or Sylveon.
This kinda fulfills the list. Now we just gotta think about which pokemon best fulfill the aforementioned archetypes.
