Lillie's arc was always about about finding a dream and overcoming her phobia on pokemon was just the first step. The problem is that Writers has no idea what goal Lille should have, They can't introduce an variation of contest without people complaining about it being repetitive. The best they can do is make Lillie leave Alola to start her own Pokemon Journey which slowly change her to a wild girl like pic related.

Same apply to Koharu, writer themselves does not know what her goal should have. If she decide to become an evolution researcher then that's mean she did follow her father's footstep which contridict her entire dilemma about following different footstep then her father.

There are only three way I would ship Ash with Lillie --

1) Lillie has a change of personality like Madame Muchmoney (The Trouble With Snubbull) during her journey to find her father.

2) She develops a close chemistry with Ash on per with Dawn, Misty and May

3) Lillie grows up to look more similar to Kohaku from Dr Stone with similar figure instead of her mom.
