Way way back in Sapphire when that was still the newest game. I was maybe 12ish. I knew about shinies but there wasn't much information at all about them. I had only ever seen Red Gyarados and Ash's Noctowl, so I wasn't even sure that every Pokemon HAD a shiny. I just kinda thought it was a few of them. I never even had a friend that had seen once except one dude who told me he found a yellow Grimer but lost it. I believed him at the time.
So I looked down and noticed a blue Electrike on the screen. Missed any kind of sparkles. This was still early enough that I didn't know Electrike's color scheme that well but I THOUGHT it was supposed to be green. So I caught it. It was sent to the PC. And then I found another one and it was definitely green. Went to the PC to look at it and was amazed.
My first ever honest shiny reaction though was in HeartGold yeeears later where the middle Electrode in the Mahogany Town Team Rocket HQ was blue. Sparkles and everything. I fucking freaked out, caught him, it didn't know Self-destruct thank god, and I took him all the way to Red.
I have about 13 or so shinies now but sadly these two have been lost. I did happen to find another random blue Electrike in Alpha Sapphire though so I feel like I got my blue friend back. I still have him. One day I'll reclaim Electrode. May even hunt that exact same Electrode in Mahogany Town.
Those two and a shiny Karrablast (Now Escavalier, which I do still have) are my only 3 full odds 1/8192 shinies. The rest are gen 6 and beyond.
