Each showing the portions of the pokemon as a model but another showing the pokemon's sort of "attitude" not just because it looks aweome but it can show a lot of how the body works and making the vesion more clear. For example the black circle around lopunny's eye were supposed to be marking like a racoon but many people saw it's scleras. If it was moving we could see how it's looking around and seeing things vs standing still like a doll.
But thats how I see it, I could just be biased because I feel it does look more bad ass
But even then animators have modeling sheets showing the pokemon's anatomy
