But even then, i'd be lying if i said i never expected at least a thank you from those people; some sort of resolution or sign that what you're doing is right.
We care about what others think of us because, in a primal way, having others help us overcome obstacles can help us survive. That's why we actually do care about what others think of us, and actively let their way of thinking affect our everyday choices.
You see that person who says "Screw the system! I will swim AGAINST the current"? Ironically, he's also letting the very same system determine his choices in life, carefully studying what it does so it can do the opposite. It's kinda the same thing, but with a pinch more cynicism.
